From the 1865 Diary of Mary Ann (Knox) Herrick
Wednesday, August 23, 1865
Father so angry about the oxen. I fear how awful Father is so angry with H. He says he’ll sue him. Sent Bell up across lots so Father wouldn’t see her. I feel so badly. Seems as though would kill me. I’ve been and sit out in the swamp. Lil’s come to get me. Come home and went to H. Says they have settled. I am so glad. Aunt L and Betsy come.
*I'm guessing that H is their son, Henry. He was 26 years old at the time. Maybe an 1865 version of your kid taking your car without asking permission?
