Went in afternoon. Mrs. Hinsdale funeral. Em going to watch with Jennie. That fellow came back.

Friday, April 28, 1865
Em went up to Mrs. Ks. Liss and myself commenced cleaning. White washed and papered north chamber (?). I’m so tired. Worked so hard. It is so good a day. Thursday, April 27, 1865
I quilted that baby quilt. A fellow come along and left a horse is pasture. Em gone up to Henrys. Wednesday, April 26, 1865
I am sick. Em gone to Mrs. Bs. Bell to Ls and Bess to Ms. Mrs. Hinsdale died today. Mrs Stedman buried today. Em cleaning cheese room. Girls picked some cowslips. Emerson brought down C & twins smart as you please. I went up to see Jennie. She gets better.
Sunday, April 23, 1865
Em, Liss, Bessie and Abbie gone to church. Bell come down, gone back. Girls went to sing and lecture from old Mr. Lucas. Em watched with Jennifer. She is very sick. From the 1865 Diary of Mary Ann (Knox) Herrick
Saturday, April 22, 1865 Henry come for horses. His baby sick, I went up, staid all day. Got congestion of the lungs. *Henry would be the son of Mary and Thomas Herrick. He was 26 years old at the time, married to Sarah (Parks) Herrick. They had three children, Hattie, born 1863, Jenny, born 1864, and Sarah (Sadie) born in 1875. Friday, April 21, 1865
Rain. Em got Fred’s coat done. Sent Bel and ? up to ?, got a bundle from Sule, brought home ? pieces, Wells come (I mended his coat, most finished his pants) *the last was written on the next page |
