Cold and stormy, snowed.  Edson went to the depot and brought Mr. Hawes and Sule and Mr. Leete.  We went to the Church but the women did not go to the grave.  Mrs. Osborn stayed at the house.  Henry read the will.  They were not all satisfied.  It seems as though my troubles had just begun.

Thomas Herrick Will
Be it remembered that I, Thomas of Blandford, County of Hampden, State of Massachusetts, being of sound and disposing mind, do hereby make, publish and declare this my last will and testament as follows.
1st  To my son Henry K. Herrick I give and bequeath one undivided half of  my homestead on which I now live, the said homestead to include the Waterman Lot so called.  And after the decease of my wife Mary A. I give and bequeath the remaining half of the aforesaid homestead to him, the said Henry K. On the condition that he the said Henry K. Shall pay the full sum of one thousand dollars to my Daughters, to them or their Heirs, the said one thousand dollars  to be equally divided among the said daughters, or their heirs, viz Charlotte Oatley, Ursula M. Hawes, Emma L. Nye, Mary E. Richards, Melissa B. Nye, and Abbie A. Herrick and to each of the before named daughters or their heirs I give nothing more from my estate.
2nd  After the payment of my just debts and incidental expenses. I give and bequeath to my wife Mary A. The use of one undivided half of my homestead on which I now live , said homestead to include the Waterman Lot so called, during her lifetime.  And I also give and bequeath to her my said wife all of my remaining estate both personal and real estate(not above devised) to her and her heirs forever.
And lastly I do hereby appoint my son Henry K. Herrick of said Blandford to be my sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking, annulling and declaring void all other wills made by me any time heretofore.
In witness whereof I have caused Mary A. Herrick to set my hand this twenty third (23rd) day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two.

Herrick in our presence and in the presence of the said Thomas Herrick and by his express direction, and by the said Thomas Herrick at the same time published and declared as his last will and testament in the presence of said Mary A. Herrick and of us who each in the presence of the other and of the said Thomas Herrick and of the said Mary A. Herrick have here-unto set our hands as subscribing witnesses.
